	Flippers Swimming Flippers, Dive Flippers Flippers Swimming Flippers The standard joke that comes from a lot of divers, is Flipper was a dolphin... Scuba Divers Wear Fins! But really, depending where you go, and who you talk to, Flippers is still a common term. The invention of Swimming Flippers You might be surprised to know that the invention of swimming flippers did not come from looking at fish, and it did not come recently! It was Benjamin Franklin who actually is credited with inventing Swim Flippers. He was looking at frogs, marveling at how they swam so well compared to people, and decided that some swim flippers that mimiced the webbed feet of the frog flippers would do the trick! Now his original swimming flippers were made of wood, but back then, they did not have the plastics and silicone compounds we use in modern swim flippers. So today, it is more common to hear the term swimming flippers when referring to full foot fins. People who are using them just for easier swimming, exercise, snorkeling, etc find putting on and off the full foot swimming flippers is easier then bothering with the boots that we wear with strap heel scuba fins.
