BC Clips, Snap Hooks, Lanyards, Retractors
One of the coolest things about scuba is you get to buy lot's of cool gear and
toys! But then the problem is, how do you carry the stuff. The secret is getting
a nice selection of Clips, Hooks, Snaps, Lanyards and Retractors. It is considered
a big no-no in the scuba industry to have danglies, so you must have
everything clipped up on your body. Hoses or lights hanging down can snag and
kill coral, and you can run into entanglement issues as well, so have your self,
and your gear streamlined.
The first thing you want to look at is how to keep your gauge console secured. Many people like using retractors for this. A scuba retractor uses rust proof material like a stainless steel cable, or kevlar twine along with a stainless spring mechanism to pull your gauge up close to your body. But unlike a clip that you have to clip and un - clip, you can just pull the gauge up to read it, let it go, and the retractor will draw it back in to your body.
The High
Force Retractor is a great scuba retractor that can be mounted in multiple
ways onto your BC, either screwed into place, threaded onto webbing, or attached
with the snap clip, and is more than strong enough to hold any gauge, and even
smaller lights.
Other people prefer to simply use a Snap Bolt and attach it to the gauge with some cave line.
Spend some time looking through all the different clip options available to you and determine the best scuba clips for your set up - but make sure you are not Danglie!
